About me
I am visual designer working for over a decade for my own studio, Signified. If you are thinking if it is just me in the bedroom, you would be completely wrong. It’s in the living room.
I first stumbled across the art of graphic design in high school. It was the late '90s, a PC and the internet made their way into our home. At that time, I was a kid who played bass guitar and was heavily into the punk rock scene. So, I decided to make a zine in PageMaker. Understandably, it only lasted one issue. Around the early 2000s, it became clear to me that webpages are the future (or actually, they were already the present). I quickly learned the basics of Macromedia Flash and poorly designed a website for my band, with a flashy intro, of course.
Even though I found myself in other professional fields, graphic and web design were always there. During the period of the late aughts, I worked in journalism and the nonprofit sector, where I designed materials for public health and educational campaigns, event and gig flyers and posters, and all the fun stuff designers do for free.
At the start of the 2010s, I thought the world needed more critical thinkers. So, I decided to further my academic knowledge and got an MA in Cultural Studies. It was in this period that I started to work in academic research. Around the second part of the decade, however, I went back full-time into design (and some coding, as well). And from there on, it has been “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” for me.
